CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Five people were injured in a car crash early Saturday morning, which police say might have involved alcohol.
The collision occurred at Maggio and Venus ways in Chandler just after 1 a.m., according to police.
Police said a red Nissan 350Z was driving at a high speed north on Maggio Way when it crossed the center line and sideswiped a southbound gray 2003 Ford Focus.
The Ford spun out and came to a stop near the area of impact.
Police said the Nissan continued north through the "T" intersection at Commonwealth Avenue, drove over the north sidewalk, and came to a stop in a dirt field.
The 18-year-old man in the Nissan remained at the scene but the 16-year-old boy reportedly ran north and hid at a local business, where he was found by police.
The occupants of the Nissan were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The driver and front seat passenger of the Ford were also hospitalized with minor injuries.
The Ford's rear passenger, a 25-year-old woman, was transported to a hospital with a serious head injury. Police said she is in critical condition but is stable.
Police said both occupants of the Nissan may have been under the influence of alcohol.
The collision is still under investigation.
