PHOENIX (AP) -- The third trial of a man accused in the 1991 killings of nine people at Buddhist temple west of Phoenix will be in recess until next month.

Maricopa County Superior Court officials say there was no trial Wednesday because a juror was sick.

The trial is scheduled to resume Jan. 6.

Johnathan A. Doody was 17 when he was accused of participating in the August 1991 slayings at the Wat Promkunaram temple.

He was found guilty in 1993 and sentenced to 281 years in prison. But an appeals court threw out his conviction in 2011 after ruling that investigators improperly obtained his confession.

Doody went on trial again in August, but a mistrial was declared in October after jurors failed to reach a verdict. His third trial began Dec. 4.
