PHOENIX -- Another officer-involved shooting in Phoenix occurred early Sunday morning, leaving one man with a gunshot wound.

Just before 6 a.m. by 83rd Avenue and Thomas Road, police responded to a call about a man choking a woman in the driveway of their home. Officers said they advised the woman to stay outside, but when she entered the house, they followed her.

Police said the 31-year-old suspect entered the hallway armed with a handgun. One officer, who is 31 years old with eight years of experience on the job, drew his weapon and commanded the suspect to drop the gun. When the suspect raised it in the direction of the officer and victim, the officer fired his weapon, which police said he did in fear for the safety of the victim and himself.

As officers were clearing the rest of the home, a 39-year-old male victim exited a bedroom and was suffering from an apparent gunshot injury to his leg/hip area. It is unknown how he was injured.

The Phoenix Fire Department arrived at the scene and transported the male victim and the suspect to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Police said no officers were injured in the incident.

On Saturday, an officer was allegedly forced to shoot and kill a man, which happened near Seventh and Van Buren streets. The officer was not hurt.

At almost the exact same time near 35th Avenue and Bell Road, an officer shot at a suspect, but did not hit him. The suspect received injuries not related to the gunshots.
