3 ON YOUR SIDE

Valley woman denied cosmetic surgery out $100

When an East Valley woman said she got ripped off, she contacted 3 On Your Side.

The dollar amount may not be huge to a lot of people, but it's the way the $100 was taken that has Rebecca Bresin so angry.

She is getting married soon, but before the big day, she said she wanted to have some cosmetic surgery done, about $5,000 worth.

"It's $5,000. Most people I know don't have $5,000 laying around," she said.

So she decided to finance her surgery and chose a company called American Benefit Finance.

After filling out the necessary paperwork, American Benefit Finance approved her loan.

"I was excited," Bresin said. "I thought I was going to have surgery."

But just two weeks before her surgery, Bresin said American Benefit Finance changed its mind and said she didn't qualify for the loan after all.

"I cried. I actually was depressed," she said. "It was two weeks beforehand and I was ready to go."

With no loan, Bresin said she accepted the fact she wasn't going to have surgery and put the issue behind her.

That is until she checked her bank account and realized American Benefit Finance withdrew $100 from her account.

The reason they said was because Bresin canceled the loan and there's a $100 cancellation policy.

"Every time I tried to talk to someone I got screamed at and hung up on and all I wanted was a reason why they were taking $100 out of my account," she said.

The company even sent Bresin a letter indicating the patient canceled the loan, but she said that's not true.

After 3 On Your Side got involved, an envelope to Bresin was sent overnight. Inside the envelope was a check for $100.

"I'm very happy. I see 3 On Your Side a lot of times and I'm glad to see that you do what you do. It's nice," she said.

The business manager from American Benefit Finance verified that Bresin shouldn't have been penalized the $100 because she never canceled, the company did, and said that there was some sort of misunderstanding.
