Every time you fly it seems like such a gamble to get a dirt-cheap deal on airline tickets.

"I always considered it to be a little bit of a game to get the best fare that I could," Tim McDonald said.
But for McDonald and his wife, Carrie, who were waiting for their flight to Boise, Idaho, their trick was to buy their tickets as early as possible.
"At least 30 days in advance is what I always tried to do if I could plan it that far in advance," Tim said.
Enter a Web site called farecast.com. It tracks airfare prices and even predicts if the particular tickets you want to buy will either increase or go down in price.
There's even a chart that tracks the price history of that ticket.
"I like to be able to see the fare history to see what the spread is between the low and the high," Tim said. "I paid $345. I think she paid $352. It has one on in here of about $280."
According to the McDonalds, farecast.com was pretty accurate. And after checking out the site, there was only one thing Tim didn't like.
"I don't like to look back here and see that I overpaid," Tim said. "But at the time I thought I was doing the right thing."
No one likes to over pay but give farecast.com a shot and you might find out you got a deal after all.
