AMADO, Ariz. (AP) -- The Pima County Sheriff's Department says a 3-year-old boy is in stable condition after accidentally shooting himself.
Sheriff's Deputy Tracy Suitt says in a news release that Green Valley District deputies responded to the shooting at a home in Amado around 12:40 p.m. Monday. The boy shot himself in the lower torso.
Suitt says the child was flown to a trauma center, where he underwent surgery. Suitt says the boy is in stable condition.
The Sheriff’s Department Homicide Unit and Crimes Against Children Unit responded, due to a child being involved in a traumatic shooting. The incident is under investigation.

Amado is about 40 miles south of Tucson.
