MESA, Ariz. -- The Mesa Fire Department treated two adults and a baby after their car collided with a parked Valley Metro light rail train, according to Capt. Forrest Smith with the Mesa Fire Dept.

The collision occurred just after 6 p.m. near Main Street and Sycamore.

Capt. Smith said the 24-year-old male driver had to be extricated from the vehicle and has serious injuries.

The infant was secured in a car set and taken out by the 23-year-old female passenger before paramedics arrived.

The child is being assessed and appears to have no obvious injuries but was transported for a medical evaluation.

The adult female appears to have minor injuries and was also being transported to a hospital.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Mesa Police Department.

The light rail train was parked, unoccupied and out of service at the time of the collision.
