PHOENIX -- More than 21,000 people filled the streets of downtown Phoenix Sunday morning as they participated in the 2012 Komen Phoenix Race for the Cure®.

The event raised nearly $1.6 million with donations still coming in through the end of the month.

Of the funds raised, 75 percent will stay with the Phoenix affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® to help fund education, screening and treatment programs in central and northern Arizona, and 25 percent will go the Komen Research Grants and Awards program to fund breast cancer research.
