Map: Jewelry theft at Kmart
MESA, Ariz. -- Mesa police are searching for two suspects in connection with a jewelry theft at a Kmart store Saturday night.
Police said the suspects entered the store near Power Road and Southern Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. and went to the jewelry counter.
They looked into the display case and pointed to several items then one of them left the store while talking on a cellphone. The second suspect called the jewelry clerk over and had her show him some rings.
Police said while the display case was unlocked, the suspect removed a small silver handgun and showed it to the clerk. He then handed her a backpack and told her to start putting jewelry in it. After numerous items were in the bag, he took it and fled out the main entrance.
The first suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, 140 to 160 pounds with short black hair and stubble along his chin line. He was wearing a black-and-white NY Yankees baseball hat, a black hooded sweatshirt with a white shirt underneath, dark jeans and white shoes. He also had a royal blue backpack.
The second suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, 140 to 160 pounds with short black hair. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored baseball hat, a royal blue sweatshirt with the hood on, dark jeans or cargo pants and white shoes.
