MESA, Ariz. – Two people were injured in a Mesa house fire Tuesday morning.
Eight people were inside when the fire started at the home near First Street and Stapley Drive.
Capt. Bob Tribbensee with the Mesa Fire Department said one adult climbed out a window to escape the fire.
Two people were transported to Maricopa Medical Center to be treated for burn injuries. The other six were not injured.
Tribbensee said the fire appears to have started in a previous carport area that had been enclosed to make bedrooms.
The fire burned about half of the house. Tribbensee said the other half had extensive smoke and water damage.
At this time, it is not known if there were smoke detectors in the house, but initial crews did not report hearing any, according to Tribbensee.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
