AVONDALE, Ariz. – Avondale police have arrested two men suspected in numerous vehicle burglaries across the Valley.

Derrick Hiller, 36, and Christopher Arnett, 22, face charges of burglary, possession of stolen property and fraud.

Avondale police began investigating vehicle burglaries occurring at a post office near Dysart and Indian School roads in May, according to Sgt. Brandon Busse. They obtained surveillance video of a light blue Toyota 4Runner leaving during the incident.

On June 25, a K-9 officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 4Runner matching the description of the suspect vehicle, but it fled at a high rate of speed.

The department's Community Action Team located the possible 4Runner involved and identified Hiller from investigative leads in approximately eight Avondale vehicle burglaries.

Busse said police also linked Hiller and the 4Runner to numerous vehicle burglaries in Glendale, Surprise, Goodyear, Scottsdale and Phoenix.

Arnett was identified as an accomplice in at least one incident in Phoenix where a vehicle window was broken and a purse was stolen at a post office. The suspects in this case used stolen credit cards to purchase and keep approximately 90 Redbox movies, purchase gas for vehicles and buy movie tickets.

With the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, police executed three search warrants Thursday and took Hiller and Arnett into custody along with evidence from previous burglaries.
