TONOPAH, Ariz. -- Two people died after being ejected in a rollover crash near Tonopah, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

A driver spotted a gray vehicle rolled over near Baseline and Wickenburg roads Thursday morning and notified the sheriff's office.

Investigators said it appears that the vehicle was traveling westbound when it crossed the center lane and hit the eastbound shoulder. The vehicle then returned to the westbound lane at an angle and began to roll into the desert.

MCSO spokesman Officer Christopher Hegstrom said Justin Burts, 41, landed about 90 feet from the vehicle and Laura Roberts, 35, landed 120 feet from the car.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but Hegstrom said speed may have been a factor. It is unknown whether drugs and alcohol were factors.
