FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Two people were arrested in the killing of a man whose body was found on a roadside between Flagstaff and the community of Leupp.

Coconino County authorities say they arrested 35-year-old Gabriel Lewis and 51-year-old Marvin Curley, Lewis' uncle, in the death of 56-year-old David Alan Christine.

The three people were acquaintances and frequented the same Flagstaff homeless shelter.

Christine's body was found Wednesday by a passing motorist.

Investigators say Curley fatally choked Christine with a wire after the two met up and began drinking together, and then brought the body to the area of milepost 440 on Leupp Road.

Even though not present when Christine was killed, Lewis was implicated in the crime, investigators say.

The two allegedly conspired to kill Christine because he would not leave them alone.

Christine had recently returned to northern Arizona after spending the past year in Phoenix, and Curley and Lewis had just moved to Flagstaff from the Williams area, according to the Coconino County Sheriff's Office.

Curley was booked on suspicion of first-degree murder, while Lewis was booked on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.

Curley is being held without bond, and Lewis' bond was set at $1 million.

It's not known whether Lewis and Curley have attorneys.
