TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- State wildlife officials say another bighorn sheep has died in the Catalina Mountains north of Tucson, where 31 bighorns were released late last year.

The bighorn death discovered Sunday is the 16th confirmed by the Arizona Game and Fish Department.

Wildlife officers confirmed Monday that the bighorn ewe was the victim of a mountain lion.

They say most of the other 15 bighorn deaths have been the result of predation by mountain lions.

Three lions have been killed at the department's direction for preying on sheep.

The bighorns were relocated to the Catalinas from the Yuma area last Nov. 18 in an effort to rebuild a herd that disappeared from the Tucson range in the 1990s.
