PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona won an $11.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to continue efforts to improve the state's lowest-performing schools.

The funds come from the department's School Improvement Grants program and are part of $535 million provided through the fiscal year 2011 budget and made available to states.

Arizona has received $92.9 million in funding since the program was redesigned in 2009.

The funding was announced by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.
