PHOENIX (AP) — A decade after being mandated by state law, new regulations on abortion clinics are about to take effect.
The Department of Health Services regulations cover such things as duties of physicians in performing abortions and providing care afterward.
The rules are set to take effect Monday unless there's a new legal challenge. A Maricopa County Superior Court judge on Wednesday refused to allow a last-minute suit to be filed to block the regulations. He called the filing too late because the rules were set to take effect since May 10.
Implementation of the 1999 law was delayed by a previous legal challenge that result in extensive revisions to the originally proposed regulations.
The law was passed after a woman died following a botched abortion.
