DOUGLAS, Ariz. -- A total of three people were arrested Wednesday for allegedly trying to smuggle marijuana into the U.S.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said two 17-year-old girls, one a Douglas resident and one a Mexican national, were referred for further inspection after a narcotics canine detected something in their vehicle.
Inside the car, officers reportedly found 21 packages of marijuana worth approximately $17,000.
Later in the day, a narcotics canine alerted officers to a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old Douglas man.
Officers reportedly found 134 packages of marijuana worth nearly $88,000.
All three people were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
The drugs and the vehicle were seized.
