GLENDALE -- Nearly 1,000 jobs are on their way to Glendale in the 101 corridor area alone.
The City says the new St. Joseph's Westgate Medical Center opening in May will bring an estimated 200 jobs; American Furniture Warehouse will bring 300, and an expansion now underway at Tanger Outlets will bring another 200 jobs.
"There are going to be all sorts of jobs available," said Tanger General Manager Jessica Reeves. "They might be part-time, full-time; anywhere from a stock associate to a store manager."
Reeves isn't yet ready to reveal the names of the new stores, but she says 12 to 15 new businesses will open in November.
"Fantastic, big names," Reeves hinted. "Always going to be outlet prices, value prices merchandise that's in season and in trend."
"They're doing something right," said shopper Richard Newcomer at the mall with his family. "Anything that helps the economy is good."
Especially if you happen to be looking for employment.
"Just everyday, going out there, sending my résumé out to different companies, different retailers, said Karen Durazo.
After a five month search, he just landed a job at Helzberg Diamonds at Tanger Outlets.
"There was a line of people waiting to get my same position," she recalled of the day she interviewed.
She's thankful the opportunity is now hers.
"Without a job, I can't go to school, so it means paying my tuition," said Durazo.
As for the many people still looking, new construction gives them new hope.
"We're excited that we're putting people to work," said Reeves.
The City of Glendale says Tanger Outlets brought in 4 million in sales tax last year. The new addition is estimated to add about 1 million in sales tax.
