On August 2nd Carey and I (Lori Santa Maria) met with members of our Creative Services team to discuss the promotion plan for 3TV News at 10pm. We discussed promos for on-air and online. In attendance were Creative Services Manager Bill Ottinger and Senior Producer Vique Rojas. The Creative Services team is filled with extremely talented people that shoot, write, edit, market, etc. They’re extremely funny and always a blast to be around. In this meeting we talked about scheduling as Fields Moseley would only be in Phoenix for two days, August 7th & 8th and leaving back to Utah on the 9th. So, whatever shooting we needed done had to be done in that time frame. We also talked about scripts, locations and wardrobe colors for Carey. For Internet promotion we discussed some behind the scenes footage and outtakes that we could share online from the shoot. After the meeting and after talking to Fields via phone the creative services team decided on Monday, August 8th as the shoot date.
On August 3rd the Creative Services team hit the streets and did several site inspections trying to find a location for night a time shoot that would showcase downtown Phoenix. They found a beautiful spot… 3rd Avenue and Jefferson on a parking garage rooftop. It was perfect! But, being weary about the weather the team set up a second location for a shoot in one of the 3TV small studios. This footage may never be used but, just in case it rained we had a backup plan.
On August 8th Fields made his first appearance at the station and was geared up with makeup and extra ties ready for the day long promo shoots. He arrived a few hours early to meet and chat with his co-anchor Carey Peña. In fact, here’s a video of Carey Peña meeting Fields Moseley for the first time. After lunch and around 3pm they headed upstairs to one of 3TV’s small studios to shoot the first round of promo footage. After that shoot they headed to a dinner meeting with the boss, News Director Brad Remington and then they were shuffled off to downtown Phoenix for the 7:30pm promo shoot on the parking garage.
The Creative services team arrived at 6pm setting up the lights, platforms, cameras, etc. Carey and Fields arrived at 7:30pm and the shoot began. We only had to move the set twice which isn’t bad and because there were no lines in this shoot we didn’t have that many takes. So, we were done around 8:45pm and it didn’t rain… yay it was a success!
Next steps are editing, voice overs and approvals. We're hoping to have it up and running by next week. We'll keep you posted.
