So, you know when you try to do a nice thing and it turns into awkward city?
I had one of those nights on Monday, the first night of our new 10 o’clock show on 3TV.
Carey Peña and Fields Moseley are the anchors. They’re looking to do some interesting things on the show and I’m looking forward to its growth. They also have a pretty good producer who has an eye for TV news so we’re all in.
Yes, I’m putting it off, the embarrassing part. The first show at 10 o’clock went off without a hitch until afterwards when I arrived in the studio to congratulate Carey and Fields.
I saw Fields, shook his hand. So far, so good. Then I saw Carey and while I went to give her a congratulatory hug, she was going for the high five, which I will admit, we’ve done much more often over the years Carey and I have worked together.
You know, I was trying to do something nicer than normal for her first show but, as the kids say, FAIL.
So the moment gets worse when I try to correct and get my arm in position to make the high five. Whack! I knocked Carey’s brand-new iPad 2 right out of her hand.
It clattered on the studio floor and we’re all looking around like, ‘Okay, that was way below average’.
As of this writing, the iPad is still working. I offered to pay to get it fixed if it’s broken and I’m not sure Carey would let me do that. So if anyone reading this hears from Carey it’s broke, let me know!
Moral of the story? I should have given Fields the hug.
