SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – A woman is dead and her husband is fighting for his life after an ugly car crash in Scottsdale Thursday night.
It happened just before 9:30 p.m. in the intersection of Pima Road and Dynamite Boulevard.
The woman has been identified as Phyllis Colby, 54, of Illinois. Her husband, also 54, was behind the wheel of an Acura SUV.
According to Scottsdale police Officer David Pubins, that Acura did not stop for a red light at the intersection and collided with a Dodge SUV.
The driver of the Acura was ejected from his vehicle. He was taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Hospital with life-threatening injuries. His condition Friday morning was not immediately available.
Colby was pronounced dead at the scene.
A woman was behind the wheel of the Dodge. She had her juvenile son with her in the vehicle. Both were taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Hospital. Their injuries were not life-threatening.
Early on investigators believed alcohol might have been a factor in the wreck, Pubins said, but they have since ruled that out.
According to Pubins, everybody except the driver of the Acura, the man who was ejected, was wearing a seat belt.
The intersection of Pima Road and Dynamite Boulevard was closed for seven hours, but has since re-opened to traffic.
