Water – Use It Wisely

“There Are a Number of Ways to Save Water and They All Start With You.”

Water – Use It Wisely, the water conservation outreach effort born in Metro Phoenix, Mesa and Scottsdale AZ, turned 10 years old this year and celebrated with a new look, expanded services, and a new campaign focused on reducing outdoor water use.

The campaign launched in 1999 to promote an ongoing water conservation ethic among Arizona's rapidly growing population. Since then, Water – Use It Wisely steadily gained momentum, leading to the formation of a central Arizona regional partnership that includes the cities of Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale, Chandler, Fountain Hills, Glendale, Peoria, Tempe, Avondale, Surprise, and El Mirage. Additional partners include the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association, Global Water Resources, Arizona-American Water Company, Salt River Project and Liberty Water. The campaign gained statewide partners, and even spread nationwide boasting more than 400 national partners.

The goal of Water – Use It Wisely is to provide simple water-saving tips and resources individuals can easily apply to their everyday lives. Now the focus is shifting outdoors, where up to 70 percent of water is used and much of it is often wasted.

Ten years on the job gave Water – Use It Wisely a unique perspective as it enters this next phase. The campaign came a long way since its beginning and is excited to move forward and give water conservation a fresh new energy. By capitalizing on the recognition built over ten years, it makes sense to turn the focus of the campaign to engagement and participation. After all, the tagline to the campaign is “There are a number of ways to save water and they all start with you.”
