A Stepping Stone Foundation provides high quality preschool for 4 year old children at risk of school failure. We are passionate about using quality family education as a means of linking children and their families of limited resources to opportunities. Currently, we have 5 preschool classrooms hosted by Isaac and Alhambra School districts, where parents are requiredto attend English or GED classes, parenting classes, work in their child’s classroom, and open their homes once a month to teacher home visits. All previous preschoolers that complete high school may apply for our Billie Gannaway Scholarship to colleges and universities. Recent studies have shown that high quality preschool with family education can have as high as a $17 return to society for every dollar spent! We are so very grateful for your support. A Stepping Stone Foundation welcomes support at all levels and in various ways. Please call 602-843-8281, or visit our website for more information: www.asteppingstone.org
Founded in 1986, Habitat for Humanity Valley of the Sun, a faith-based organization, is an advocate for eliminating sub-standard housing by creating partnerships to build and renovate owner occupied housing. We coordinate all aspects of Habitat home building in our local area -- fund raising, building site selection, partner family selection and support, house construction and mortgage servicing. We accomplish our mission through a model that promotes volunteerism, collaboration, self-sufficiency and partnership. Habitat homeowners are low-income (30-65% Phoenix Median Income) families who currently are living in substandard housing, have the ability to repay the no-interest mortgage, are willing to attend homeownership-training classes, and work 400 “sweat equity” hours in the home construction process. Homeowners purchase the home with a no-interest mortgage to keep it affordable. Mortgage payments are then placed in a “Fund for Humanity” and used only to purchase land or build more homes, an investment in future generations. The Habitat model is a hand up, not a hand out. Home ownership helps to break the cycle of poverty by allowing families to invest in their future through building an asset.
