NOGALES, Ariz. -- Customs and Border Protection officers assigned to the Tucson Field Office seized almost 3,000 pounds of marijuana hidden in a shipment of watermelons.
Nogales CBP officers discovered the marijuana worth nearly $1.5 million Monday evening.
A 44-year-old Mexican man attempting to enter the United States at the Mariposa Commercial Port was referred for a non-intrusive X-ray inspection of his Volvo truck.
The X-ray operator noticed an anomaly in the shipment. Officers inspected the load and discovered 128 bundles of marijuana among the produce.
The marijuana and tractor-trailer were processed for seizure.
The driver was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
