Earlier this year Valley resident Virginia Adame had a simple goal.

"I was going to be turning 55,” Adame said. “I said I wanted to be in shape, joined Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig, and spent a fortune.”

She wanted to lose about 15 pounds, but more importantly she wanted to be healthy.

“I also had high cholesterol problems and I was taking medicine,” Adame said. “And I’m not taking medication anymore, so I'm excited."

And finding a weight-loss plan that worked is something to be excited about. The program is called First line Therapy.

“Actually coming to the doctor’s office and having someone sit here and tell you and explain it to you, writing everything down, and keeping on top of it, so it's accountability," Adame said.

Every week Adame meets with nutrition coordinator Kim Vitellaro at Lifescape Medical to chart her progress. Vitellaro works together with Adame’s doctor at Lifescape to make sure she's getting the most out of the diet.

“It’s a Mediterranean-style diet, which consists of lots of lean meats, lots and lots of fruits and veggies, some nuts, bean seeds, a little dairy and a little grain,” Vitellaro said.

And eating small meals throughout the day is tough for someone on the go, like Adame, who's a flight attendant.

“I pack a bag with my food in it and I know what I can eat when I go out to a restaurant and what I can't,” Adame said.

These days Adame feels great. She’s lost 16 pounds and said she has a healthier body.
