Conquer chronic pain without surgery -- part 1
09:10 AM Mountain Standard Time on Wednesday, October 4, 2006
Chronic pain can change a person's life.
It can be so bad that some people have trouble doing simple things like walking.
Well, treating the pain isn't always easy, but thanks to an alternative method, one Valley woman is getting pain-free results minus the surgery.

"I was having problems with walking and mobility,"Edith Faber said.
Faber's knees weren't in tiptop shape anymore. Not only walking but just getting up and down was extremely painful.
"I was a twisted person,"she said.
Surgery was not a route Faber wanted to take, so when she heard about a non-medical method called Egoscue she was all ears.
The Egoscue Method uses a series of gentle stretches and exercises to bring the body back to its proper alignment and function.
Clinical director John Cattermole said using this method helps someone work on returning their body to its original blueprint. It can get out of whack from such things as past trauma or loss of strength or flexibility.
"The real focus of the method is to help them move their posture in a way that it was designed to go so that the joints won't be overstressed and people experience pain from it,"Cattermole said.
Faber came to Cattermole about a year ago. He put her on an individual plan she could do at the clinic, as well as at home.
"I admit it was a little strange because I had been doing exercises all of my life,"Feber said, "but these were totally different.”
Feber said her results were immediate. Not only did she feel better after the first session, things really started to look up after just six weeks.
"I was standing straighter,"she said. "I just felt better about moving.”
Faber also liked the fact that the staff works with other Egoscue clincs around the country using the video technology.
"Our goal, from the moment they walk in the door, is to work ourselves out of a job, help them become responsible and successful in goals of becoming pain free,"Cattermole said.
"It's taking some action and responsibility yourself for how you feel,"Faber said.
