SCOTTSDALE -- Sexy interior design is all about attitude. It's creating a personal space that makes you feel alive. It's about creating a home that tells your story.

That's according to color consultant and lifestyle behaviorist Barbara Kaplan.

She says rooms often are designed to look good, but if you are living in a beautiful space that does not express your heart and soul, the beauty only lasts so long -- until you feel the need for personal comfort and self-expression.

"No one should be influenced by anyone else’s ideas or taste," Kaplan writes on her website. "Here in the Bajaro World you will learn that YOU are the only ingredient that matters when it comes to designing your personal spaces."

Kaplan, the author of "The Bajaro Method: Rooms Have No Feelings, YOU Do!", says we all need to be heard and seen, as we truly are, and that living in another person's idea of what looks and feels good can play out negatively in other areas of our life.

This is where sexy design comes into play.

"When we feel sexy, we feel alive, we feel real and we feel powerful," Kaplan explained.

Because we are in several environments we have no control of all day long, we need to feel good about our most personal spaces at home -- the only place where we can decide what colors and style we want to live with.

She says when these decisions are made with the people we love, it strengthens our  connections and creates a unique look that tells "our" story. It becomes an environment to share and enjoy together.

According to Kaplan, there are three basic styles of sexy interior design -- sassy, sensuous and serene.

* Sassy -   Have fun with these areas of your home. These are the places in your home that are bold, dramatic, exciting, lively, and playful.

* Sensuous -  Think lots of texture, stimulating colors, and luxury.

* Serene -  These spaces are calm, mellow and relaxed areas that offer comfortable, organized spaces.

It's easier to get started than you might think.

Kaplan says you need to sit down with the person you love and play with your own words to describe these three types of design for you. Make lists and then read them out loud.  You'll be surprised by what you come up with.

She also says it's important to remember the meaning of the environment in your home affects your attitude and the way you express yourself to others daily.

Interior design is not a science. It is an art and you are the subject.

Create your own portrait!

Remember, rooms have no feelings, YOU do and creating a sexy home is the best way to feel alive and vibrant in your most personal spaces.
