PHOENIX -- "Helicopter parent" is a term for those parents who "hover" around their kids, making sure everything is as it should be.
Alison Rhodes, aka "The Safety Mom," has some tips to help you do this unobtrusively. Knowledge is power and technology can help.
A website called TrueCare.com is designed to help you look out for your kids in the ever-expanding -- and potentially dangerous -- world of social media.
With TrueCare, you can keep an eye on what your child is posting online, as well as what his or her online friends are doing. The system is designed to alert you to potential problems, including inappropriate content, bullying, depression and more.
On the home front, Rhodes recommends the ADT Pulse system. In addition to traditional security monitoring, the system also incorporates wireless cameras and sensors. Rhodes said the ADT Pulse gives her peace of mind when she's away from home because she can check in any time she likes. It's a virtual nanny that can send you alerts about what's happening in your house based on parameters you set.
The last product Rhodes talked about is the Protector, which is a system designed to prevent texting while driving.
Rhodes' latest book is called "Honey, I Lost the Baby in the Produce Aisle.
