PHOENIX -- This month's hot, muggy weather makes it almost impossible to keep your makeup looking fresh. So on Monday's Good Morning Arizona, we asked a beauty expert for her tips on applying melt-proof makeup.
Valley makeup artist Zethina has worked with celebrities ranging from Pink to Jane Seymour to Kathy Griffin. She says the most important thing about stay-fresh summer makeup is to start with a light foundation, not your usual heavy winter foundation. "Definitely go with a tinted moisturizer," she says. "Something lightweight that lets your skin breathe."
A mineral foundation is also a good choice. And make sure your foundation has sun protection.
A new trend in summer makeup is silicone-based powder. "It's very silky," she says. "And it goes on clear so it's good for all skin tones."
Zethina also showed us a trick for making eye shadow last longer: mix in a little water. "Of course the color is going to be much more intense," she says. "But when you apply it, it's wonderful because it's crease-proof." You can also use an eye shadow primer to make the color stick.
But the biggest tip is to just keep things simple. "My favorite things for summer would just be a tinted moisturizer, a bronzer, and a lip gloss," Zethina tells Tess. "You feel put-together, but it's lightweight, and not heavy on your skin."
