PHOENIX -- Even though it was celebrating National Drive-Thru Day Thursday, McDonald's is gearing up for an even more important event this weekend.
Stores throughout Arizona will be giving away 100 free backpacks to kids who are getting ready to head back to school.
Last year, the fast-food chain handed out nearly 30,000 backpacks.
3TV's Heidi Goitia got the lowdown on this Saturday's event.
Beginning at 8 a.m., McDonald’s restaurants will begin distributing the free backpacks to the first 100 children, accompanied by parent, who visit their local McDonald’s restaurant. Children will also receive a free Go-GURT Low-Fat Strawberry Yogurt, in celebration of McDonald’s new Happy Meal choice.
In addition, a special educational bookmark from Expect More Arizona’s “Today I Will” initiative will be distributed to parents.
The backpacks will be given away at McDonald’s restaurants in Maricopa, La Paz, Mohave, Yavapai, Coconino, Gila, Navajo, Apache, Graham, Pinal and Yuma counties. The FREE Backpack offer excludes Walmart and shopping mall McDonald’s restaurant locations.
