Pledge to Dump the Pump on June 19 for a Chance to Win a Staycation
Valley Metro is asking local residents to Dump the Pump on Thursday, June 19 by taking public transit, carpooling, vanpooling, teleworking, bicycling or walking to work instead of driving alone. It's part of a national effort by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) to help reduce fuel consumption. Valley residents who pledge to dump the pump will be entered to win a staycation at the Arizona Grand Resort & Spa. Pledge online through June 19. The Phoenix Children's Chorus
Auditions are being held for boys and girls entering second through 12th grades today at 5:30 p.m. Members of the Phoenix Children's Chorus participate in performances and guest appearances, and learn the basic elements of vocal technique, performance and musicianship skills. Children interested in participating in the Phoenix Children's Chorus DO NOT need a musical background.  The chorus is looking for children with pleasant, clear singing voices, who love to sing and can match pitch. PCC is a choral music education program that teaches children the fine art of choral music.  Financial assistance is available.

Fire Department to host kid-friendly ceremony rededicating historic sine building
Today at 9 a.m., The Glendale Fire Department will be hosting a ceremony for the rededication of the historic Sine Building in downtown Glendale. There will be a ribbon cutting, tours of the building and kid-friendly entertainment such as clowns, face painting and balloon animals. Beverages, cookies and ice cream will be served at the ceremony free of charge.

Phoenix Public Library Exhibit
"The Yarnell Hill Fire: 25 Days Later" -- June 17-Aug. 12
Burton Barr Central Library, located at 1221 N. Central Ave., will host an exhibition of photographs by George Berke in the library's @Central Gallery. An opening reception with the artist will be held Thursday, 6:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. The reception is sponsored by Friends of the Phoenix Public Library.
