Heather Metell, Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center
Executive Chef at the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center and Banner Gateway Medical Center, Heather Metell shared some of her ideas on foods that people undergoing cancer treatment should think about eating.
She also had these tips to pass along:
On Nausea
· Try eating small meals throughout the day and not force down big meals
· Don't let your stomach get empty between feedings
· Chew Chew Chew your foods
· Let other's cook
· Try eating cold foods
· Avoid high fat foods
· Wear looser clothing, get some fresh air
· Stick to mild flavored foods

 Diabetic Diet
Healthy eating is a cornerstone of any diabetes management plan. But it's not just what you eat that affects your blood sugar level. How much you eat and when you eat matters, too. Portion control is key. Do not shy away from Carbs - Carbohydrate containing foods are rich in fiber and have other vitamins and minerals that other  food groups don't.  Limit refined Carbohydrate. Spread out your Carbohydrate intake throughout the day(a good rule of thumb is about 3-4 carbohydrate serving per meal). Fruit is ok, you must manage portions. 1 serving of fruit =  1/2 cup Juice, 1 cup  melon or berries, ½ cup canned fruit, or 1small fresh fruit.
Try to include a fruit serving with each meal. Fruits make great snacks.
 Eat at regular times
Do not skip any meals - avoid fasting to lose weight
Keep your diet low in fat and salt
 Exercise at least 4-5 x /week.
Bake, steam, grill or broil your foods
Take your medication on time and regularly
