Empty The Shelter Event
Saturday, May 18, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
25 N. 40th St.
During the event, adoption fees will be $25 for adult dogs (older than six months), $75 for puppies up to six months, $30 for adult cats six months and older, and $75 for kittens. All animals will be spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date with vaccinations, saving adopters even more money when they take home a new furry friend from AAWL & SPCA. In addition, AAWL & SPCA is offering a voucher for a free heartworm test and free heartworm prevention with a discounted $30 wellness exam at the organization's low-cost public PetMD Clinic. Emptying the shelter on this day will make room for AAWL & SPCA to rescue at least 100 more animals from open-intake shelters where they are at risk of being euthanized. The Valley has the second-highest pet over-population problem in the country. Approximately 90,000 animals enter open-intake shelters in the Valley every year, and about half of them are killed, even though many could be adopted.
The Unveiling of Gallery Glendale at Westgate will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 17, at Westgate Entertainment District. The evening will feature a sampling of Glendale's art collection, working artists, interactive art demonstrations, refreshments and live music.
