PHOENIX-- The Mega Millions jackpot is up to more than half a billion dollars, and everyone is running out to get a ticket. This is the lottery’s biggest jackpot in U.S. history. However, your odds of winning are slim.
The National Lightning Safety Institute says your chances of getting struck by a bolt of lightning is about one in 280,000. Hitting the Mega Millions jackpot, which means matching all six numbers drawn, is one in 176 million, but that hasn’t stopped people in Arizona from buying tickets.
Mathematicians say there is no real strategy to win.
The lump sum payout on the $540 million jackpot is $389 million.
