PHOENIX -- About 250,000 kids and young adults visit hospital emergency rooms each year with brain injuries caused by sports or other recreational activity, according to the White House.

President Barack Obama on Thursday held the inaugural Healthy Kids and Safe Sports Concussion Summit and called for more research into youth concussions.

The event drew more than 200 participants including the NFL, which promised $25 million to support projects promoting youth sports safety.

Dr. Steven Erickson, medical director at the Banner Concussion Center in Phoenix, talked to 3TV's Tess Rafols about concussions on Saturday's Good Morning Arizona.
