PHOENIX -- With the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction capturing the Valley's attention this week, it seems like everyone is focused on hot wheels!

So just in time, the Detroit Auto Show has rolled out its top honors for car and truck of the year.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray has been named the car of the year.

Doug Brauner of the Detroit Auto Show gave 3TV viewers a preview of that and other hot cars on Monday's Good Morning Arizona.

And he's already making predictions for next year! He expects the 2015 Ford Mustang will win the the top spot. "They started redesigning this car back in '09," he says. "How amazing is this?"

The Mustang will go on sale this summer for about $23K.

The truck of the year is the Chevrolet Silverado.

But the F-150 is getting a lot of attention, too, especially because of its lighter weight. "This one shed 700 lbs. off of it," says Brauner. "Why did they do that? To save weight and increase towing capacity. They're using an aluminum body which is super strong but super light-weight."

The change is Ford’s response to small-business owners’ desire for a more fuel-efficient and nimble truck, and stricter government requirements on fuel economy.

Also in the truck department, the GMC Canyon is being praised for its good gas mileage.

The annual Auto Show will bring Detroit an economic boost estimated near $400 million. The public show runs from Jan. 18-26 at Detroit's Cobo Center.

It's expected to draw about 5,000 journalists and 800,000 visitors. More than 500 vehicles will be on display.
