PHOENIX -- If your young daughter is begging you to color her hair, there might be a good reason to tell her no.

According to Kendall Ong, owner of Mane Attraction Salon in Phoenix, hair dye can be too harsh for a young girl's hair.

Ong says hair changes after puberty. Before puberty, a girl's hair is finer, more fragile and more susceptible to damage from chemicals and dyes.

Ong says hair chalk is a good, temporary alternative for girls. He recommends Bumble And Bumble's Spraychalk, which easily shampoos out.
