VALLEYWIDE -- Spring training provides a unique opportunity for fans to get up close and personal with their favorite players. But one player got a little more than he bargained for at one Cactus League game a few years ago.

David Aardsma was warming up in the field at Hohokam Stadium while playing for the Chicago Cubs a few years ago. He heard a fan -- a woman -- asking for a ball from the stands. He pretended to throw her a ball, and calls that "the biggest mistake of his life."

That fan reacted to his fake throw by heckling him. She yelled, "You throw like a girl!" among other insults. Aardsma says the bullpen went silent as this girl continued to heckle him for several innings.

She came back the next weekend and heckled him again. This time, Aardsma called her down to the field and asked for her number.

Eight years, nine teams and two kids later, David and Andrea Aardsma are living happily ever after in the Valley.

Aardsma is now with the Cleveland Indians and the two love to laugh about their unusual love story that all began at a spring training game.
