PHOENIX -- (Cue singing.) "'Tis the season to"...get a job! Although most hate to admit it, the holidays are right around the corner. That means get ready for a bonanza of merchandise scattered across every store you walk into. But who sets up all those ads and storefronts? Most of the time it's extra help, and now is the time to apply.
Major department store like Macy's and Best Buy are already accepting applications for seasonal help. Also Amazon is hiring for its huge warehouse in the West Valley.
According to Ryan Naylor, president of Phoenix-based employment website LocalWork.com, the smaller stores typically do not hire until closer to the holidays.
"People should be proactive in searching for seasonal work," he advised. "Show up or contact the employer, but also follow up."
He also says there are some pros and cons to working a seasonal job.
- Earning a pay check
- No gaps in your resume
- Gain new experience
- Get your foot in the door
- No benefits
- No flexibility in your schedule
- No guarantee of a full time job
