PHOENIX -- Does a saggy jawline have you seeing "double"? Yetta Gilbson had some ideas for a quick fix for a double chin, or the so-called dreaded "turkey neck."
"Women hate their necks," says Dr. Susan Van Dyke of Van Dyke Laser and Skin. "And not just women; men. Men look more manly when they have a sharp jawline."
Dr. Van Dyke demonstrated a new procedure called "Ultherapy." The non-invasive, non-surgical treatment uses ultrasound to restore a youthful look to the neck and chin line.
Imagine your skin as an elastic strap. It can endure stretching for quite some time, but eventually the strap loses its elasticity. Your skin has similar properties, but because it is a living material it has rejuvenating properties as well.
Ultherapy, which was recently FDA approved for the neck and chin line, harnesses your body’s natural processes in order to build new collagen. Collagen is a naturally produced protein which is responsible for the elasticity of your skin.
With just one Ultherapy treatment, the lifting process is initiated, but the effect will build gradually over the course of two to three months as stronger collagen is created. Further improvements can appear up to six months following the procedure, as the collagen-building process continues to lift the skin.
The procedure can also be used on the brows or upper lips.
"Non-invasive is the way to go," Dr. Van Dyke advises. "Start at an early age; you don't have to wait until you are 60. You can start in your 30s and get lifting and tightening, and keep it. Why lose it and have to regain it?"
