PHOENIX -- Mayor Greg Stanton, Councilman Daniel Valenzuela and Olympic Gold Medalist Misty Hyman are teaming up to get Phoenix in shape. The initiative is called FitPHX that will provide options and resources for Phoenicians to get healthy and fit.

Stanton says the goal of FitPHX is to increase the city's rank in the American Fitness Index. The city ranked 26 out of 50 in regards to health and wellness.

"Personally, a few years ago, I let myself go and get a little overweight. My doctor had to look at me and say your cholesterol is way too high, you have two young kids, you need to change your lifestyle," Stanton said.

Stanton listened and lost 50 pounds. He says he wants to see others get moving.

"Our goal is to encourage Phoenicians to be active and make it fun," Hyman said. "I think sometimes we think getting fit and active is hard, but Phoenix is one of the best places in the country to get fit."
