PHOENIX -- Experts say updating the kitchen is the best investment you can make when it comes remodeling your home.

If you're in need of an update at your house, the May 2011 edition of Phoenix Home & Garden Magazine might by just what you need.

We stopped by the Phoenix home of Dr. Steve Gurley and his wife, Melissa. It's featured in the magazine.

With the layout help of designer Tim Huber, CKD, of Affinity Kitchens, the couple was able to update their living space, and they were kind enough to give 3TV a personal tour.

The result? A charming mix of Old World charm and sleek high-tech appliances.

To achieve this look, Huber suggests using warm colors when it comes to cabinetry.  In this case, the Gurleys chose custom cherry cabinetry.

The brand-new scalloped brick ceiling helps to keep the Old World feel, and the new Saltillo tile flooring does an amzing job of cozying up a space that might otherwise feel formal.

For more design ideas, pick up the May 2011 edition of Phoenix Home & Garden Magazine.
