GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Hanging yoga is great way to release tension and take pressure off parts of your body, but it can be difficult for those who do not have full range of motion.
3TV's Heidi Goitia took us to The Yoga Hangout in Glendale, where there's a great class for all levels of yoga experience.
Students are secured to the new studio's 20-station Yoga Wall™, the only one in the area. By using their weight and bracing against the wall, students can stretch and strengthen their muscles and focus on specific poses without putting too much pressure on their wrists and knees.
Studio manager Rosa Rendon said use of the wall makes each class unique and emphasizes yoga poses that can create space in the spine and relieve tension in the upper and lower back and neck. It's called spinal release.
"Anyone can do this. ... It's actually meant for people who can not do poses on the mat," she explained. "They can do them on the straps, supported."
The Yoga Hangout has another unique offering, this one developed by a local teen.
Blythe Lambert, a recent graduate of Sandra Day O'Connor High School, created a unique workout that merges yoga principles with ballet exercises. It's called TRIMbarré, and it has become one of the studio's most popular classes.
"Not only are you stretching and working your form, you're also getting such a great workout," Lambert, who has a background in dance, explained.
