TEMPE, Ariz. --Ironman Arizona is coming this weekend, and Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell is carrying on his predecessor's tradition of challenging local reporters to a mini version of the event.
At Ironman Arizona on Sunday, 2,800 people will swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and run 26.2 mile as they vie for one of 50 qualifying spots for the 2014 Ironman World Championship in Kialua-Kona, Hawaii.
The distances for Tuesday's event were much shorter -- a 24-yard swim, a 1.12- mile bike ride and a 0.26-mile run.
The one and only Mike Watkiss suited up for this year's mini-triathlon, and not only did he survive (much to our delight), he did 3TV proud -- despite a minor mishap. He even indulged Yetta Gibson, who was there to watch it all go down, in one of his signature handstands.
