MESA, Ariz. -- Hundreds of McDonald's employees throughout Arizona extended a helping hand to more than 50 school districts and 50 schools throughout Arizona Tuesday.

More than 500 Arizona McDonald's crew and managers stepped out from behind their counters to help improve schools in their communities. Restaurant teams spent the morning painting, raking, dusting, building and cleaning as part of projects throughout the state.

3TV's Yetta Gibson caught up with one team at Porter Elementary School in Mesa.

Tuesday's Day of Service ervice projects are part of a national McDonald's campaign called National People Week, which is designed to "celebrate employees for their valued contributions to the company."
