PHOENIX - Ten thousand people or more are expected to take part in the Kentucky Derby Party, “Derby on Paradise, happening at Turf Paradise in North Phoenix tomorrow.
The historic horse racing facility is putting on a huge party modeled after the annual Kentucky Derby in Louisville. There will be a live local horse race going on during the live simulcast of the actual Kentucky Derby on the inside of the track.
Aside from horse racing, there will be food, raffles, and the traditional Mint Juleps being served during the event. Also, there will be contests going on for Best Bonnet in show.
Michael Chamblerlain, Turf Paradise’s resident Race Caller, is excited about the event. He said calling races at Churchill Downs versus at Turf Paradise is just as exciting but definitely more challenging.
The 137th running of the Kentucky Derby will have only 19 horses running. “Uncle Mo” was scratched early Friday morning due to injury. According to the LA Times, “Seven of the other 18 horses have excellent chances of winning the Kentucky Derby, beginning with “Master of Hounds.”
