PHOENIX -- It used to be that a college degree gave you a definite leg up when it came time to get a job. That's not always the case any more and that has many people wondering if a traditional four-year college is worth the significant investment.

Theresa Maher of Jobing.com says college isn't right for everyone, but that's OK because there are some fantastic job opportunities that do not require a bachelors degree.

While some positions mandate an associates degree or special certification, some require only a high-school diploma or GED.

What's more, there are companies hiring for those positions right now.

Associates degree/certification

  • Phlebotomist
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Pharmacy technician

"A lot of these positions are salaried," Maher said. "You can start as a tech position at an entry level and move up to a very good salary in this roles."

High-school diploma/GED

  • Satellite TV technician
  • Sales representative
  • Administrative assistant

Companies hiring now for these positions

  • Mollen Immunization Clinics (LPNs)
