GLENDALE, Ariz. -- You don't have to be in England to celebrate Prince George's first birthday -- you only have to go to Glendale for a party with an authentic afternoon tea experience. The Spicery in Our 1895 Home is offering a birthday party fit for a prince this Sunday.
3TV's Heidi Goitia took a trip to the tea shop and lunch restaurant and talked to Matt Borowski, The Spicery's owner. Borowski said the birth of Prince George has definitely led to an increase in interest in the royal family and traditional English tea time.
The menu for Sunday's event starts with a pot of tea with scones and shortbread. Next comes one of the most famously English foods: an assortment of small sandwiches. The meal's desserts are locally sourced, with ice cream and cake pops coming from some of Glendale's own businesses.
In addition to the food and some prizes that will be given away, the event also benefits the West Valley Crisis Center. The center's Candace Schulte is asking those who come out to the royal tea to bring supplies for the center's youth.
"When children are first coming into foster care, they often don't have any items, not even the clothes on their back," Schulte said.
Schulte said the center particularly needs lightweight pajamas for the summer, new shoes and diapers.
The celebration is on Sunday, but reservations have to be in by today. The event costs $25. For more information or to make a reservation, call The Spicery in Our 1895 Home at (623) 937-6534.
