SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.-- You might not think of putting "food truck" and "gourmet food" in the same category. But food trucks have come a long way since the days of being called "roach coaches." Now many offer up gourmet, delicious, even organic food.
Lori Baker of the Scottsdale Food Truck Caravan says it's a whole new generation of food trucks, rolling into a community near you. "We host an event every Saturday night at 5th Avenue and Goldwater in Scottsdale from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.," says Baker. "We have eight trucks out there, and we are going to host a special event Dec. 7 and 14 to meet the new trucks in town. And these guys are pretty amazing."
Diners can find a little bit of everything. For example, Saffron Jak Pizza offirs gourmet Persian flatbreads. Grilled Addiction serves up organic dishes. And Frank's is the truck with gourmet hot dogs.
A rotation of up to 15 gourmet food trucks will be on hand each week, providing guests with a wide range of gourmet food from around the world including farm fresh food with a twist, southern comfort food, organic sliders, curries, Dutch-Indonesian satay, Vietnamese fusion, Filipino and classic diner cuisine, to name a few.
"You can sample food from around the world in one parking lot," Baker says.
There's always a dessert truck on hand as well, serving everything from creme brulee to gourmet artisan ice cream.
