PHOENIX -- For one valley family, life is a circus, literally. And that family is bringing its act to a Phoenix stage, just in time for the holiday season.
In the Taylor family, everyone has a role to play. Mom Barbara was a clown for Ringling Brothers, and dad Martin has always had a love for the circus. Their passion inspired their four kids, who range in age from six to 17.
"They practice every day, and they’re really talented at their craft”, says mom, Barbara Taylor. “I have complete confidence in them."
So the family decided to make a show of it. The Taylor troupe performs as part of Circus Americana, and they’re proud to be known as one of the few true circus families left in North America.
The troupe’s skills range from juggling and clowning to contortion and acrobatics. They’re also master stilt walkers, fire performers, and tight wire artists.
The Taylor Circus Stars have been performing around the valley for years, and have worked with corporations including Cirque du Soleil, Feld Entertainment, and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
This year, the Taylor Family, along with a cast featuring more than two dozen artists, will bring Circus Americana to the Herberger Theater.
So what can the audience expect? The Taylor Circus Stars are a new generation circus, featuring innovative acts and shows geared toward a family audience. The shows re-create the vintage-feel of the old-time circus, and modernize the show with creative acts and theatrical effects.
Among the troupe's antics are the re-creation of a steam punk dance festival, and a pirate sword fight on trampoline ships. You’ll even get a taste of the holidays, as Santa acts as ringmaster.
The family tells us their act is designed to appeal to kids, seniors, and everyone in between. Next month’s show at the Herberger will be their first major performance.
The show will run December 12th through December 23rd at the Herberger Theater.
Ticket prices run from $24 to $52.
